This may seem strange and out of the blue, but... Where's Vicki? I haven't seen/heard anything from her lately...

So much has happened over the last year it seems it's hard to realize what I need to talk about. Roleplays, my car accidents, Sanshi, both my younger cousins having children... Oh! And my brother is serious about a girl so we're waiting to see when he proposes. That's just how my brother works, he doesn't do the casual dating stuff. Well, I guess I don't either. XD I'm coming up on two years of dorkdom with Kara. Mom and Tom now know for sure I'm a curvy road and mom's thrilled that I wasn't afraid of falling in love like she'd thought. (She also thinks Kara needs a few more pounds and a week of sleep. Poor Kara didn't look too good in the picture I sent.)Also, Patrick's working on moving forward with his life and while I'm not allowed to say anything yet (since it's not public-filtered yet) but there are going to be large changes for him coming in 2009.
Sanshi is a strange fluffybutt who licks the pages of manga. But she's also adorably catty so I love her anyways despite the scratches all over my hands. >.> I'm determined to win the war one of these days.
Work? PFT. My department manager is still unable to handle the department. I'm just wondering how long it'll take before management gets around to investigating his unprofessional and very unequal treatment of customers and associates. Also, he took away my ability to order stuff and change on-hand counts. Good luck to his continued sanity when the holiday shoppers hit. Sucks to be him.
On the other hand, the ladies in Photo want me over there and several had said they were going to pester management about it. While I won't be away from the department manager's influence, I at least won't be crossing paths with him nearly as often.
My grandparents/brother/cousin will be meeting my parents for a December vacation in Australia! I'll be dog/house-sitting for grandparents during the trip so I'll move Sanshi over there for the two weeks, poor baby.
What else? Not much, plotting on going to Canada or Mexico at some point. My grandparents were totally convinced that I had gone to Canada with them when I was little but I pointed out that I hadn't. I've been to three other continents but not to our neighboring countries. It needs to be fixed! XD In April I'll be meeting Mom and Tom in Bali for their spring break, yay! I want to go see the fishies!
I started playing in a prison-style roleplay over LJ which is going interesting places. Savil wants to blow up stuff while Soubi wants Seimei to stay dead and gone. Need to poke Nexus again... *pokepoke*
Oh! Playing on Wowscape still! I need to get Tenni and Icizia going again!

And thus, I'm an auntie. Well, technically not. My cousin had her baby girl on the 17th so I guess it's like my second cousin once removed or something (I can't keep those straight) but since Sam's like my sister I'm declaring myself to be an auntie. And I told her that I'm not going anywhere NEAR a diaper (which caused much laughter) but promised to help make Halloween costumes in the future...

Otherwise my life is epic boring. I work, come home and comb the kitty who's shedding like a poofball in the middle of summer, dink around the computer a little, then sleep. Mom and Tom are home again for the summer though which makes things a bit less routine. Which reminds me, I need to air out my sleeping bag and start packing for the big family camp out this weekend.

So all the tornados that came through the area missed the Fort though it seems that we were just lucky. Windsor is just across I25 from us and got hit the worst with destroyed houses and businesses and one dead (no info released on how it happened). At work we were on lockdown for about half an hour, and while customers weren't physically contained the door greeters were supposed to heavily recommend they stay inside during that time.

So, well, that's about it. I'm fine, Sanshi's fine, brother/grandparents/aunts and uncles are all fine. Grammie said there was just some wind damage in their back yard.

Time to go sleep off my cold now.

So! AO went fairly well in some ways, though... not so good in others. I had an absolute BLAST hanging out with people I haven't seen in a while and not be sick off my ass during that (and thus coming off as an antisocial ass or a brainless rambler). But as for the convention as a con? I'm rather sad, actually. This was a con I used to really recommend to people, especially those first starting out in their con-hopping lives. I'd talk about how laid-back everyone was and how friendly everyone was, to the point where it was the only convention I knew of where one could chill out in the hot-tub with both fans and special guests without security getting pissy and acting like a human shield. Alas, those days are gone. Last year was a good indicator as to where the con was going when over half the staff quit either before or after the con. This year it sounds like half the special guests were PISSED (not at fans, but at the con chairman... seriously, at least one of the voice actors had absolutely nothing scheduled for him to be doing for half the con). And the costumers? Yeah, the costume/skit contest was an insulting joke. There were no costume awards (for costumes and construction), no guest awards, no masters/novice awards (this is done so that those presenting at their first con aren't flattened by those who have 10 or so years of experience or whatever), it was just skit-based awards done by audience reaction. And did I mention that it was 'live scoring' so that those participating were publicly insulted?
I can understand that at a small convention, the prizes given away at the costume contest is pretty limited, BUT. To top this off, there was a first through third place, and two honorable mentions (done as an afterthought it seemed, though both honorable mentions were WELL deserving, one was an amazing TRC group, and the other was Wedding-style FFX). I felt that at least one if not two of the skits should have been disqualified and sent off stage for adult content (one group was onstage with a person in what looked to be a ball-gag, the other was doing Internet is for Porn, they actually have Unrestricted Cosplay for that!). And only the first place got a single thing other than the opportunity to go bow on stage, I was shocked. Instead of breaking it up so that first place got $400, second got $200, third got $100, and honorable mentions got what the dealers donated, nooooooooooooo. First got all.

On a side note of amusement, this year they had a backdrop in a rather ugly peach-flesh toned textured fabric. Why does this amuse me? Not only did it throw off the color schemes of every photographer in the room, but there was a very innuendo-producing gap near the top where a blue mood-light was showing through.

I've also decided that I may need to just start hosting panels when I go to conventions though it'd cut down on my socializing. But... I've just come to know more than the presenters on some topics it seems. For example, I went to a panel supposedly on the history and wearing of kimono. The lady running it had nothing except for a power-point presentation with no pictures of people actually wearing kimono, and while she had illustrations of the various changes that happened in kimono styles through the centuries, her only explanation was 'it was a fad!'. Face. Palm. I had to leave before it was half done since biting my tongue hurts after awhile.

And thus, a rather large group of us decided it was time to move on and let the vultures start their circling. Next year we'll be crashing at Sakura Con in Washington I think.

Edit: And holy crap, I didn't think that would actually happen! I let the class I'd been taking be dropped since it wasn't going in the direction I'd been hoping for, and it would take awhile for them to change my residency status so it was costing me double what it normally would have. And I was figuring that I'd have to go in and see about getting back the money I'd already paid on it... only to find out that it was already credited back to me. WOOT.

And here be my evil kitty, who won the battle against the army of paper balls this evening! This is just a practice post I suppose, I'm too sleepy to post anything worthwhile.
